TIROL. In Tyrol, more and more ski areas rely on a guide system and ascent routes for piste tourists.
Rules for ski touring
In Tyrol, ski resorts for slopes are based on rules. This is to provide conflict-free cooperation and more security. Climbing only the edge of the runway and one behind the other or just crossing the runway quickly in easily visible places and with sufficient distance should be a matter of course for runway tourists, as well as observing warnings and closures. This guide system was developed together with the state of Tyrol and the cable car industry.
“Our initiative is coming into force. There are currently eleven ski areas in Tyrol where the piste guidance system is used and it makes an important contribution to the separation of uphill skiers and downhill skiers, ”said the deputy governor of the state. Josef Geisler.
The signs are uniformly designed and mark the optimal and safest climb lane on the terrain. In addition, there is information on the difficulty of the route, the distance and the altitude to master.
Signs are already in use in eleven ski areas
The guidance system was launched five years ago as part of the Safe & Fair trail rides initiative. The Patscherkofel, the Rosshütte ski area in Seefeld and the Pitztal glacier were the first and were the first to implement the system. Eleven ski areas now participate:
- In the Innsbruck area: Patscherkofel and Rosshütte also Mutterer Alm and Axamer Lizum
- In the Imst district: Pitztal glacier and on the Hochzeiger
- In the Kitzbühel district: St. Johann mountain railways
- In the Schwaz district: Hochfügen
This winter there are additional offers at Bichlalm and Gaisberg in Kitzbühel, as well as at Glungezer. Preparatory work is still going on here. In the rest of the ski areas the offer is expanded.
Tyrol state support
In total, more than 20 ascent routes are signposted this winter.
“The state of Tyrol has sponsored the signage through the ‘Bergwelt Tirol – Experiment Together’ program together with the respective tourism associations with more than 50,000 euros. Our common goal is safe and fair cooperation on the slopes. Control systems alone are not enough “(Josef Geisler)
In addition, however, attention should also be paid to compliance with the recommendations for track tours based on the FIS rules of conduct and mutual consideration.
The correct behavior when crossing the slopes is the subject of the current video clip of the awareness campaign “Bergwelt Tirol – living together”. If grade crossings are necessary, they should be done quickly and with a good distance from each other. Flat sections and clear areas should be used for crossings. There is a risk of collision with ridges and curves.
