Val Gardena – Saturday December 19, 2020, 1:10 pm

The first great winter classic of the World Cup, the descent at the Saslong in Val Gardena, ends without an ÖSV podium.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde wins in the best conditions after a strong race, especially in the Ciaslat area 0.22 seconds ahead of American Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Beat Feuz (SUI / + 0.54) and makes Val Gardena’s double perfect .

Austrian alpine skiers cannot compete for the top spots. Max Franz, who performed well in practice and won the Saslong in 2016, finished ninth as the best rider in ÖSV (+0.98). Matthias Mayer finished in tenth place (+1.05) after a moment of shock after the Camel Humps, where he fell badly three years ago. Vincent Kriechmayr is in 13th place (+1.43).

Daniel Hemetsberger is 26th, Otmar Striedinger, recently second in Val d’Isere, has to content himself with 30th. Hannes Reichelt missed the top 30.

For Kilde, who already won the Super-G on Friday, it is the second straight downhill win at Val Gardena. The Norwegian won ahead of Franz in 2018, and the downhill race had to be canceled in 2019. Kilde also takes the lead in the overall World Cup, which he won last year.
