Nebel prevented the women’s Super-G from being contested at the Alpine Ski World Championship in Cortina d’Ampezzo on Tuesday. After initially good weather, a fog bank moved across the “Olympia delle Tofane” slope in the upper section at the scheduled start at 1pm. After 45 minutes, the organizers and the International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to move the exit downwards, but the fog persisted even in the reserve exit area.
So none of the 13 scheduled races took place during the first two days of the World Championship. The women’s alpine combination would be scheduled for Monday; it was postponed until next Monday due to snowfall and poor slope conditions. The men’s Super-G, originally scheduled for (today) Tuesday, was moved to Thursday on Monday night because the slope is not yet ready to run after heavy rains.
The men’s alpine combination is scheduled for Wednesday (10 am / 1:30 pm / ORF 1 live). It promises to be another difficult day. Moderate snowfall is expected overnight, after noon there should be changeable weather. In the starting area, 20 to 25 centimeters of fresh snow are expected.
The original start of the women’s super-G would actually have been at 10.30am, the start time was adapted on Monday after several postponements. Until just before 1:00 pm on Tuesday, the sky was clear over Tofana, before the cloud front rose and made a race impossible.
