Salzburg ski maker Blizzard in Mittersill is halting production for several weeks and switching to short-term jobs due to the crown crisis and the associated decline in demand. Ski sales fell from around 400,000 to 300,000 pairs this year, that is, by about 25 percent, managing director Helmut Exenberger told the APA on Monday, confirming a report on ORF radio.
Specifically, the latest skis will be produced and delivered this year at the end of next week. “Then the employees will continue taking vacations and then they will work reduced time until the end of February,” said the managing director. Blizzard has basically weathered the crisis very well, but the global ski market has fallen by around 30 percent, which is more than his company has felt.
Exenberger also emphasized that the production halt was also due to the season. In the ski market, products are produced and delivered mainly from April to September / October.
