In the second men’s sprint of the World Cup for biathletes in Hochfilzen, on Thursday there was a four-way Norwegian victory, led by shooting star Sturla Holm Laegreid. From an Austrian point of view, Julian Eberhard was ranked 10th in the expected top-ten spot in Tyrol. The 34-year-old from Salzburg was 1: 01.9 minutes behind Lagreid after the 10km competition. He was also about 42 seconds from the podium.
Laegreid crossed the finish line without errors after 23: 04.9 minutes and won 7.9 seconds ahead of Johannes Dale and 19.9 seconds ahead of Johannes Thingnes Bö. The ÖSV’s second best ski hunter was the clear David Komatz at 21st, Simon Eder, also without shooting errors, landed in the 25 World Cup points in the top 40 and Harald Lemmerer in 35.
“It was a very good performance, I am satisfied with my career today,” said Eberhard, delighted with his first top-ten result of the season. “Unfortunately I made a mistake. The goal would have been important today to be ahead. But I got it all.”
Felix Leitner’s sprint did not go as planned. The Tyrolean had to get into the penalty loop twice, finishing in 76th place and thus losing qualification for Saturday’s chase (1pm). Lucas Pitzer finished 99th in his World Cup debut.
