Sierning nursing home: first Covid 19 vaccines in Upper Austria

SIERNING. Today, December 27, the symbolic start of the Covid-19 vaccination in our state took place at the Sierning nursing home. Resident Maria Schierl (90) and Nursing Director Sabine Wimmer were the first people in Upper Austria to receive the corona virus vaccine. Both do not have complete virus protection right away, because a second injection will be necessary in about three weeks. Upper Austria received 40 doses of the first vaccine delivery, which are available for vaccines as of today.

“You have to be patient!”

“The hope of a vaccine in 2020 helped many people. Now, shortly before the New Year, we begin to administer the first Corona vaccines in Upper Austria, and with that the way back to a time like before Corona began. But it has to be clear to us: vaccination cannot make Corona disappear immediately. We have to be patient. Because production and organization take time. We have to take responsibility. Because we have to stick to the rules. We have to help together. Because we not only protect ourselves with a vaccine, but also others, ”says Christine Haberlander, LH deputy director of health. “The idea that it will improve gives a lot of hope. If many participate, the next vaccination will soon allow us to lead a normal life again. I am glad that vaccines are starting in homes for the elderly and for the elderly, where people especially in need of protection live, ”said social counselor Birgit Gerstorfer.

Vaccination schedule

  • In a first phase, starting on January 12, residents and employees of nursing homes and for the elderly will be vaccinated by attending physicians and hospital staff.
  • In phase two, people at risk and people in critical infrastructure should be vaccinated starting in February. Family doctors will already be involved here.
  • In phase three, enough vaccine should be available from April so that vaccination can be offered to the general population, from resident doctors and local vaccination centers.
