During exercises in the Persian Gulf, an accidentally fired missile hit an auxiliary ship.

Nineteen sailors were killed in military exercises by the Iranian Navy between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. 15 soldiers were also wounded in the incident, the Iranian army announced on its official website on Monday.

An army spokesman had initially spoken of one dead and 15 wounded, two of whom were in critical condition, according to state broadcaster IRIB. The Armed Forces web portal corrected the number of victims soon after.

Misfortune claims death in the Persian Gulf

During Sunday’s exercises, a rocket fired by the Iranian corvette “Dschamaran” accidentally hit the auxiliary ship “Konawar”. According to IRIB, the auxiliary ship did not maintain the necessary distance and was therefore hit by the rocket.
