Serious car accident with three dead south of Graz

Two men and a woman between the ages of 21 and 30 were killed in a car accident on Saturday night in the Laa district of Premstätten (Graz-Umgebung district). A 27-year-old inmate was rescued from the wreck by other road users before it caught fire. It was operated on at UKH Graz, the Styrian State Police Directorate said.

The accident occurred around 1.30 am The car, occupied by four people, two women and two men, left Bierbaumerstraße (L373) for an unclear reason and crashed into a concrete pillar of a garden fence. Other road users immediately provided first aid and pulled one of the women out of the smoking car through a broken side window. After that, the wreck caught fire.

It was only after the Zettling and Unterpremstätten fire departments put out the fire that they discovered the three bodies inside the vehicle. According to the police, first it is necessary to clarify if they were burned in the car or if they had died previously in the accident. The three deaths each come from a different district: Graz-Umgebung, Leibnitz and Südoststeiermark. The rescued 27-year-old comes from the Voitsberg district.

By early afternoon, some mourners had already lit candles for the deceased at the scene of the accident. The Graz prosecutor’s office ordered the seizure of the bodies, the vehicle involved in the accident and further investigations into the course of the accident. Family members are cared for by crisis intervention teams.
