Red Bull Racing has stayed true to many drivers over the years: Sergio Pérez has been the twelfth regular driver since the beginning of RBR history. The Mexican: “It has always been my dream to drive for a team like this.”
The decision has been made: Red Bull Racing has signed Mexican Sergio Pérez, 30, for the 2021 GP season. The Guadalajara thoroughbred racer is the twelfth Formula 1 driver to compete in a GP outing for the Milton Keynes racing team (see table below).
Pérez showed his best season in the premier class in 2020: he finished fourth in the World Cup, although he had to skip two World Cup races due to crown disease. He only retired once in 15 races (through no fault of his own) and only failed to make the top ten twice. To cap off his fabulous season, he won his first Formula 1 race at the Sakhir Grand Prix.
Pérez says of his involvement with Red Bull Racing: “That has always been my dream: to be able to drive for a racing team that can have a say on the world championship title. I have worked to achieve this goal for years. It will be a proud moment to start in the Red Bull colors at the opening of the World Cup. “
By the way, this is the second time that “Checo” Pérez has driven for team principal Christian Horner. In 2009, the Mexican participated in the then GP2 series (now Formula 2) for the English racing team Arden, which was founded in 1997 by Christian Horner and his father Garry.
Sergio Pérez continues: “I am very grateful to Red Bull for this opportunity. Red Bull Racing and I share a winning mentality. I know that performance is required of me. But everyone on this team knows that I will give my all next season to help the team become world champion again. “
