On Friday, the soccer Bundesliga prepared plans for the championship to continue without a stadium audience and presented them to the federal government. The responsible ministries must now approve the concept. Vice Chancellor and Minister for Sports Werner Kogler (Greens) was cautiously positive a few hours after the Bundesliga decision by the Bundesliga to start the game without spectators.
“We want to create the opportunities for the Bundesliga to take place,” Kogler said Friday night on “ZiB2.” The Vice Chancellor also said: “We are discussing the framework conditions intensively and I believe that we will reach a result here.”
About 200 people are said to be in the stadium
In the Bundesliga-planned ghost games, only about 200 people will be deployed, including teams, officials and media representatives. Medical tests for the coronavirus are only planned for those directly responsible for the game, that is, for players, coaches, referees and children with the ball.
If a player has a positive test, the entire league should not be divided, but only the person in question should be isolated. Those who have had contact with a positive person should be closely examined, but for the moment they remain on the team. The league should continue as long as each team can deploy a deployable squad of 14 field players and two goalkeepers, more on this in sports. ORF.at: League decides the “ghost game concept”.
Längle hopes the decision will be made soon.
Vorarlberg Bundesliga SCR Altach club managing director Christoph Längle expects a positive decision from the federal government next week. At the moment, it is still being clarified how regular tests should be organized, for example, whether they will be carried out centrally through the Bundesliga, which is why Längle in the interview “Vorarlberg Today”.
“This is also our approach,” says the SCRA managing director, a uniform testing procedure is sensible. There are labs across Austria that could cover that. The tests must take place before all matches in the Bundesliga. From the point at which normal training can be resumed, that is, with physical contact, tests should be performed weekly.

Clubs and the league bear the costs.
Längle emphasized that professional football does not take away the evidence from anyone: “We were confirmed from all sides that there is currently enough evidence capacity.” He also emphasized that the clubs and the Bundesliga bear the costs of the tests. The exact amount of costs is still unclear, discussions with suppliers have yet to be completed. However, between 70,000 and 80,000 euros per club can be expected by the end of the season, Längle said.
Until April 30, there is a regulation that small group training is possible. “Our approach would be for the full operation to start in training from May 1, then you can set the date for the first game, which takes two to three weeks to prepare for,” Längle describes a possible schedule. It is also open if the season can be extended until July, the international limit is currently June 30.
Vorarlberg professional clubs: all tests negative
The first tests for coronavirus in the clubs only brought a positive case in Mattersburg: in the professional clubs Vorarlberg SCR Altach and in the second division Austria Lustenau, all the tests carried out on Thursday were negative. All the players and coaches were evaluated in the clubs. Therefore, currently allowed small group training can continue as planned.
Continuation of the second league still open
Austria Lustenau is currently the only second-league club in Austria that can train in small groups, to prepare for the ÖFB club final. Because it is still unclear how it develops in the second highest league in Austria. The second division has maintained the possibility of continuing the season during the coronavirus crisis. In a video conference of all teams with the Bundesliga on Friday afternoon, the end of the season was not decided. However, the signs strongly indicate this.
In the coming week, a task force is yet to explore opportunities to perhaps find a sporting finale, which would be of interest to Ried leaders, but a financial test for almost all clubs, more on the sport. ORF.at: 2. League faces a tough test.
