Schedule improvements: offer extension to Badner Bahn from December 13

The next Badner Bahn schedule already has a continuous 7.5-minute cycle between Vienna Opera and Wiener Neudorf and a daily 15-minute cycle to Baden. The new vehicles will be used in the second half of 2021 and will offer more comfort and accessibility for passengers on Badner Bahn. The AnachB VOR app and the easymobil app from Wiener Lokalbahnen enable route planning and ticket purchase quickly and easily.

In total, passengers can expect additional capacities of around 350,000 kilometers by train per year. “That’s almost 20 percent of the current performance between the Vienna Opera and Baden and corresponds to an 8.7 times trip around the world,” enthuses VOR Managing Director Wolfgang Schroll.

Continuous 15 minute intervals

“This huge additional offer is shown in concrete terms for Badner Bahn customers, for example, in the extension of the daily 15-minute intervals of the Vienna Opera – Wiener Neudorf – Baden Josefsplatz from 5 am to 12:30 am” adds VOR CEO Karin. Zipper. Between the Vienna State Opera and Wiener Neudorf, the current quarter-hour intervals can be reduced to a 7.5-minute full-day interval between 6:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. (previously only 6:30 a.m. to 9 am and 3 pm to 7 pm) on weekdays. On Saturdays, the 7.5-minute cycle will be offered from 9 am to 9 pm (previously only until 6 pm).

In addition to the significant improvement in the range of services, the modernization of our vehicle fleet with barrier-free and air-conditioned vehicles of the TW500 series will bring a remarkable increase in quality for our passengers over the next few years and, therefore, will further increase the appeal of Badner Bahn. This allows us to convince even more people of the advantages of public transport. We have prepared intensively for the extended offer with the shorter interval, for example by accepting and training new drivers. I am looking forward to welcoming many new passengers who relax and respect the environment with the Badner Bahn, ”reports WLB Managing Director Monika Unterholzner.

Contribution to climate protection

Making Badner Bahn more attractive is also a contribution to climate protection. A single traveler from Baden to Wiener Neudorf saves an average of 940 kg of CO2 per year by using Badner Bahn instead of the car. In 2019, Badner Bahn set a new passenger record with 13.4 million passengers. It is considered one of the most important suburban connections in the south of Vienna and directly connects the city centers of Vienna and Baden.

“With this contract, more than 500 million euros will be invested in increasing capacity in the south of Vienna. This underlines the successful cooperation between the provinces of Vienna and Lower Austria and is a service for citizens, ”said Vienna City Councilor for Economic and Financial Affairs Peter Hanke.

For Lower Austria Finance and Mobility Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko, it is clear: “The common approach at Badner Bahn shows how we can connect Lower Austria and Vienna across national borders. The Badner Bahn is next to the Südbahn THE The backbone of mobility in the south of the federal capital will become more and more attractive to travelers over the next 15 years: the departure signal is December 13, 2020! “
