Last weekend it happened again. On the Gaisberg, the local Salzburg mountain, the car never went from one side to the other, the streets and parking lots were hopelessly overloaded, the police had to block the driveway.
Before next weekend, for which beautiful weather is again forecast, the city is acting early this time. Gaisbergstrasse will be closed in advance to individual motorized traffic, both days from 8 am to 4 pm
No test balloon
What has been politically debated for years – the end of car traffic on the Gaisberg – could now be implemented surprisingly quickly in view of the beautiful weather and limited leisure opportunities. As Gaisberg’s new coordinator, ÖVP councilor Florian Kreibich, explains in an interview with KURIER, this should not be a test balloon for a blanket ban or a single exception.
“A blanket ban is not in dispute,” says Kreibich. But I do not rule out that this happens again. But neither can it become a regularity ”. The green list of citizens has been campaigning for a car-free Gaisberg for many years. The party welcomes the current step.
