Over the course of 2021, all Salzburg residents who want to get vaccinated should do so too. However, Medical Director Petra Juhasz is concerned about the high number of infections. Therefore, he advocates a “careful opening” after December 7.
He is confident that the first Covid vaccines will be available in Salzburg from mid-January. State Medical Director Petra Juhasz said in an interview with the state media center on Thursday. If the two vaccines, for which clinical trials have been completed, win approval, the federal government announces the first vaccines for the beginning of the year. The first doses of the vaccine are aimed at risk groups and health workers, says Juhasz. “Reports from the federal government are, however, that in the course of 2021 all citizens of Salzburg who want to get vaccinated should have one.”
Intensive preparations for logistics
Intensive preparations are currently under way between the federal government and the federal states regarding vaccine-related logistics. “These are not pre-filled syringes as we know them from other vaccines. These vaccines come in several packages and sometimes require special cooling, everything has to be prepared.”
Watch compatibility closely from the start
You are not concerned about the safety of these vaccines. Although the approval process was faster than usual, it went through all the necessary phases. “But he will monitor tolerance closely from the start.”
“I was hoping there was already a flattening”
Juhasz is concerned about the current infection figures: 495 new infections were reported in Salzburg on Thursday. There were also eight Covid-related deaths from Wednesday to Thursday, including a 48-year-old from Salzburg. This increased the death toll to 92 on Thursday; more than a quarter of them were registered in the last three days. 220 Covid-19 patients were last treated in the country’s hospitals, 24 of them in intensive care units. Juhasz expected that given the stricter measures, the numbers would have stabilized significantly this week. “I’m getting impatient,” says Juhasz. Given that there are now more cases than in the first wave, it was unfortunately also to be expected that there would be more deaths. “We also have more older people who are sick, who are also at higher risk of developing the disease more seriously.”
December 7: “I look forward to a careful opening”
Given the current numbers, Juhasz is also concerned about the currently planned end of the lockdown on December 7. “I look forward to the opening date. I hope it opens carefully, otherwise there is a fear that we will soon have the same number of cases as we currently have.”
