Atypical for the Tour de France, today’s second stage around Nice really went into the mountains. At km 186 he waited with Col de la Colmiane and Col de Turini for two climbs in the 1st category before Col d’Èze waited in the final.
Immediately after the start, some drivers attacked and Peter Sagan and Lukas Pöstlberger managed to form a leading group. Sagan was in second place in the intermediate sprint of the day and therefore important points in the fight for the green. Then the seven men at the top extended their lead to more than 3 minutes. On the climb to Col de Turini, Sagan fell back on the field, while Pöstlberger continued to lead.
However, already on the first ascent to Col d’Èze, all the outliers were found. A first pick followed, before J. Alaphilippe launched the decisive attack on the second driveway. In the end, the Frenchman won the stage ahead of Hirschi and Yates. With that he also took over the yellow jersey of the general leader. In the first group of pursuers, Emanuel Buchmann and Max Schachmann reached the goal without problems.

Reactions on the target
“It has been a long day, but good. I wanted to score more points, that worked well. I’m also glad that Emu was in the group at the end. So everything went well ”. Peter sagan
“It was a good day for me. Before the start, I wasn’t sure how my form was going. But it worked out pretty well. I’m certainly not 100% yet, but I’m pretty satisfied. My hips also improve every day. I had no problem in the final and the pace was quite good ”. – Emanuel Buchmann
“That was a difficult day. First we wanted to score points with Peter. He and Lukas were in the group, that worked out really well and Peter was second in the sprint. Then we focus on Emu and Max. It was difficult in the final and everyone did their best to get to the front of the mountain. Unfortunately Max was unable to go to Alaphilippe, but that was not to be expected after his clavicle fracture. We wasted no time, so we can be satisfied with the day ”.
