As expected, there was no relaxation on the first day after the second lockdown took effect. The number of those who tested positive increased again yesterday in Upper Austria: the crisis team reported 1,098 new infections in 24 hours. This means that currently 8,489 people are infected and 19,845 are in quarantine. The death toll has also risen in Upper Austria to 149. Only yesterday there were eleven deaths. The three women and eight men were between 80 and 95 years old. All had a previous illness and died as a result of a corona infection.
There are currently three groups in schools, reports the crisis team. At the Bundesgymnasium Rohrbach, a total of 55 students, eleven teachers and six employees tested positive. In Bad Ischl primary school, 50 students and three teachers are affected by an infection. At the Michaelerplatz federal high school in Steyr, the number of infected students rose to 52 and three teachers tested positive. In addition to the already known groups, yesterday there were numerous new infections in Upper Austrian schools: 98 students and 32 teachers tested positive for the corona virus.
Tense situation in hospitals
The number of nursing homes and nursing homes affected has also increased: from four to 56 facilities. Currently, 278 residents and 224 employees are infected. According to the crisis team, the situation in hospitals remains tense. The approach is now applied to the care of acute illnesses, be it Covid-19 or other illnesses that need to be treated urgently. Therefore, operations that are not urgently needed are postponed. The number of intensive care patients has risen to 60 statewide. 533 people are treated in normal rooms.
Yesterday, 4182 new infections were provisionally counted in Austria; for technical reasons, there were no figures for the federal state of Lower Austria. Upper Austria is once again at the top of the new infections, ahead of Vienna (839) and Styria (592). There are currently 2431 people in hospital throughout Germany, on Monday there were 2161. Of these, 366 patients must be treated in the intensive care unit, that is, 30 more than the day before. A total of 1,192 Austrians died as a result of Covid 19 disease.
