Rumors about Lunacek’s resignation are growing

“Decisions like this are very personal decisions” was all that Foreign Minister Sebastián Kurz (ÖVP) wanted to say Thursday in “ZiB2” about the rumors of resignation around Ulrike Lunacek (Greens), Secretary of State for Culture. “The Secretary of State has not had an easy time in the past few weeks,” he said, referring to the situation of the culture that was particularly tense in the crown pandemic.

He had “a good personal relationship with Lunacek,” Kurz said. When asked if cultural responsibility could change the ÖVP again if he resigned, he said: “The departmental assignments are clear” and “they will not change either.”

Regarding the tense situation in the cultural sector, Kurz confirmed that he hoped that “in the coming days we can present a concept on how we can resurrect Austria as a cultural nation.” That is why “of course we make an effort independent of people.” He did not go into detail on the issue of increased financial support, which was also vehemently demanded by creative artists. “Of course” they need them, but they still need ways to make appearances possible again.

Ulrike Lunacek had previously called for his resignation by Neos and FPÖ leader Norbert Hofer (“underground performance”). >> What Stelzer says about it
