The final qualifying day for the French Tennis Open brought tennis in Austria two more appearances in the main individual competitions. Jurij Rodionov won a duel with his compatriot Sebastian Ofner 6: 4.3: 6.6: 3 and is therefore in a large peloton for the first time. Barbara Haas defeated Romanian Elina Gabriela Ruse 6: 4.7: 5 in the last qualifying round. US Open winners Dominic Thiem and Dennis Novak were firmly in the main competition.
While Thiem faces Croatian veteran Marin Cilic and Novak German US Open finalist Alexander Zverev in the first round, Rodionov faces Frenchmen Jeremy Chardy and Hass for the first time with Taiwanese Hsie Su-wei. If he is successful, he could face last year’s Czech finalist Marketea Vondrousova in the second round.
Rodionov is in Dominic Thiem’s quarterfinals, but the Austrian duel could only take place in the quarterfinals. By the way, with Thiem, Rodionov and Novak, the three Austrians are in the lower half of the table, so they can play their first round games on the same day.
