The next trio from the Bundesliga have qualified for the round of 16 of the ÖFB Cup: SK Rapid Wien, LASK and SCR Altach finally celebrated success in the second round of the cup competition.
Marcel Ritzmaier made a dream debut in Rapid-Dress on Saturday. The 27-year-old midfielder scored a double in Hütteldorfer’s 5-1 victory in the second round of the ÖFB Cup in the Wiener Neustadt regional division.
The former England legionnaire scored well with a free kick (32nd) and nailed the ball into the Kreuzeck in the 70th minute. This gave him a lot of self-confidence at the dress rehearsal for the Europa League soccer match against Arsenal on Thursday.
Ritzmaier, who came on loan from Barnsley on Oct. 5, was in the starting lineup for his first Rapid appearance. The first highlight came with Christoph Knasmüllner, who was recently in low demand and who took the lead in the 18th minute, but someone else. Four minutes later, a direct free kick from Elias Weidinger landed in the net on the other side, Matej Sabados could possibly have extended the ball with his head.
The Viennese, who had almost the best lineup, did not fret about the draw and Ritzmaier returned his team to Siegerstrasse with a free kick that went over the wall exactly in the corner. Shortly before the break, Ercan Kara (45 + 1) headed in the third goal after a Schick corner kick from a difficult position. On Rapid’s fourth goal, Ritzmaier swung away from a nearly 20-meter turn and hit the corner with a powerful blow. The final point was established by Kelvin Arase (77th) after a pass from Ibrahimoglu.
Eggestein also reunites in LASK’s debut
LASK has advanced to the round of 16 of the ÖFB Soccer Cup. Linz’s team beat third division SV Wörgl 3-0 (1-0) on Saturday and thus conducted a victorious dress rehearsal before their first Europa League group stage appearance in Tottenham on Thursday . Newcomer Johannes Eggestein scored the first goal of the night in his competitive debut in the athletic jersey.
The forward, on loan from Werder Bremen, pushed Thomas Goiginger’s cross pass over the line in the 29th minute. Eggestein’s attacking partner made a comeback after a month of injury rupture following a torn cruciate ligament. Goiginger left the field in the 55th minute, after which LASK coach Dominik Thalhammer brought in Marvin Potzmann, who had also been in custody for a long time after a torn cruciate ligament. The end came for Eggestein after an hour.
The success of the Linzers was deserved. After Marko Raguz hit the crossbar within minutes, the home side’s advantage was in the air. As more goals were lost, it was almost even more exciting in the second half. Wörgls Salko Mujanovic could not equalize against LASK goalkeeper Alexander Schlager (64th). Players and spectators experienced a moment of shock in the final phase when the visiting team’s Dino Bevab remained immobile after a collision. After a treatment, the worker was apparently taken from the field, conscious. Andreas Gruber (91st) and Peter Michorl (93rd) scored only the remaining goals in injury time.
Altach won much more clearly than the Austrian Highs: the Vorarlbergers defeated Seekirchen 7-0. Innsbruck celebrated a narrow 1-0 win against Stripfing and are also one round ahead.
