The Champions League is still the great dream of SK Rapid!
Hütteldorfer do not have much to lose as they are qualified for the group stage of the Europa League. However, in CL’s 3rd qualifying round at KAA Gent, entry to the Champions League playoff could attract, where only one hurdle awaits on the way to the group stage.
On Tuesday, the next opponent was officially drawn in the Nyon draw. Rapid is not seeded in the event of reaching the playoffs on the league route. The winner of the duo between Dynamo Kiev (UKR) and AZ Alkmaar (NED) awaits as a possible rival in the playoffs. Rapid would play his first home game.
Since the Russian and Ukrainian teams cannot be separated from each other in UEFA competitions, the other non-combined team, FK Krasnodar (RUS), will face the winner of the match Benfica Lisbon (POR) against PAOK Saloniki (GRE).
Unlike the previous qualifying rounds, the tie will be played again with home and away matches. The dates for this are September 22 and 23 and September 29 and 30.
The third qualifying round will be played in a single match on September 15 and 16.
