Vienna (OTS / SK) – The SPÖ will not agree to the amendment to the epidemic law, the president of the SPÖ party and club, Pamela Rendi-Wagner, said at a press conference on Sunday. Because this law as a basis for mandatory tests for all is not meaningful or convenient in terms of content and also legally questionable. “A mandatory test that is one or two weeks old does not offer any protection. That doesn’t make sense, ”says Rendi-Wagner. The basis of the blocking measures could not be a half-test obligation for everyone, but only the infection process. Rendi-Wagner points out that there is still a very high and fragile level of infection today. Seriously, therefore, you have to wait until the end of next week to make a forecast for the next few weeks and assess what measures are necessary, specifically regarding the easing of January 18 or 24.
From a medical point of view, according to Rendi-Wagner, mandatory testing would not make sense as a protective measure for anyone who might be one or two weeks old. “They don’t protect anyone.” Because the tests are valid for a maximum of 24 hours. “What is needed are sensitive and specific access tests in certain areas during the months after closure, until a high vaccination rate is achieved,” says Rendi-Wagner. The current law goes much further and is therefore legally questionable. “It offers the Minister of Health the opportunity to create a system where exit restrictions or indiscriminate entry to certain areas, including basic care, are necessarily linked to a test”, criticizes Rendi-Wagner. That is something completely different from sensitive and specific entrance tests, for example, for nursing homes, events or restaurants.
In addition to these specific entrance tests, Rendi-Wagner suggests easily accessible living room tests as the heart of a new testing strategy. “These tests act as a total brake on the Corona.” But they have to reach the people and not the other way around. This widespread use of easy-to-apply proofs is made possible by strip paper proofing. Two manufacturers can already produce this. But you need a European approval or a special approval from AGES. “You just have to finally act to go from being a newcomer to a pioneer in the fight against the pandemic,” says Rendi-Wagner, who also welcomes the fact that the president of WKÖ Mahrer has approached her proposal of offer testing in the workplace.
When it comes to access to vaccines, the SPÖ president also criticizes the government’s hesitant approach: “Hesitation weakens the willingness to vaccinate and increases the risk of virus mutations.”
Rendi-Wagner also emphasizes that it considers a “big problem” that the important project of the electronic vaccination pass, which has been in execution for years, is postponed. “One would have expected the electronic vaccination certificate to start in January. According to the Minister of Health, now the start has been postponed to March, ”laments Rendi-Wagner.
“It is up to the federal government to use a smart and innovative testing strategy and the great possibility that the corona vaccination will bring Austria back to normalcy and freedom as quickly as possible.
