Real Madrid and international Toni Kroos have also reached the First Division three days after their sovereign victory against Borussia Mönchengladbach and their place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The team of coach Zinedine Zidane, who is being criticized, won the capital derby against leader Atlético 2-0 (1-0) and rose to three points from the leaders.

The rojiblancos, who suffered their first defeat of the season in the league, have played one less game. The sick FC Barcelona will only be in action on Sunday night against relegation candidate UD Levante.

Kroos was involved in both Real goals. Casemiro converted a corner from the 2014 world champions to 1-0 in the 15th minute of the game. Visiting goalkeeper Jan Oblak’s 2-0 (62) own goal was preceded by a free kick from Kroos, which Dani Carvajal, a former Leverkusen player, used to shoot from afar. He hit the post, from there against Oblak and finally in the goal.

Real had already lost two of their last three home games in the First Division. Atlético have been waiting for a league win against their rivals in the city since February 2016.
