SK Rapid MediaInf: Robert Ljubičić ab kommender Saison Rapidler
After Marco Grüll, SK Rapid may present another new addition for the 2021/22 season this Sunday. Robert Ljubičić, a household name in Hütteldorf and current ÖFB U21 team player, will wear green and white in the future.
The 21-year-old midfielder (born July 14, 1999) and SK Rapid agreed to a three-year contract until the end of the 2023/24 season, with the Viennese returning to his hometown following his contract with SKN. St. Pölten expires to return. For Robert Ljubičić it is also a homecoming to his old club, because he wore the Rapid jersey from November 2006 to January 2009 when he was young. After a stint in the Vienna Sports Club youth team, the younger brother of current Rapid captain Dejan Ljubičić moved to the St. Pölten Academy in January 2014 and made his debut for the SKN St. Pölten team four years later. Since then, he has made 85 competitive matches for the “Lobos,” including today’s guest appearance on the league leaders, in which he scored seven goals and double. In 2019, Robert Ljubičić also played two international youth matches for the Croatian U20 team.
Zoran Barišić, Managing Director of Sport, says about the future Neo-Rapidler: “I am very happy to have managed to bring us the second player from the Austrian U21 team for the next few seasons during this economically challenging time. Robert Ljubičić is a very promising player who can become a very valuable part of the team in midfield. He has a very strong left foot, an excellent understanding of the game, and is a central midfield option on both defense and offense, although I see him in a slightly more offensive role than his older brother Dejan. Robert is also a character that suits us very well, I have known him and his family for many years. I am looking forward to working with him and I wish Robert all the best for the next matches with St. Pölten. As I know him, he will continue to work 100 percent or more for his current club, ”said the 50-year-old from Viennese.
Robert Ljubičić and SK Rapid have already signed the three-year contract, which will be valid after successful completion of the sports medicine tests. Future Rapidler himself says of his next move: “I am very happy and looking forward to the new assignment. I already know many of my future companions and I will soon feel at home again. In any case, a dream will come true for me, I was allowed to play soccer here as a child and even then I always imagined how nice it must be to play as a professional in front of the super Rapid fans. I also hope that the fans can be back in the stadium for my debut! Until the summer, however, my attention will remain fully on SKN St. Pölten, I have a lot to thank the club for and I would like to return that with continued good performances, ”said Robert Ljubičić.
