On Tuesday the KAA Gent vs. Fast Vienna on the program. Established one for the Hütteldorfer avoidable 2-1 loss away in Belgium.
The game started in a surprising way. Hütteldorfer was against the hosts, who are known to be in a serious sporting crisis, the most offensively dangerous team. Fountas and Murg (2nd), Ullmann (6th) and Murg (17th) found the first notable goals. However, the Hütteldorfer did not radiate a forceful goal danger. On the other hand, KAA Gent only appeared offensively from a standard situation. After a free kick, Yaremchuk missed the ball and was unable to place his header into Hütteldorfer’s goal as he wished (22nd). Overall, there was a conclusion for both teams in this phase of the game. There was a lack of precision and determination in the passing game and probably also a will to run and speed of play on the grass. When the game “slotted” to a manageable level, the guests took a cold shower. The hosts took advantage of two defensive errors to take the lead. Kums can cross the ball relatively unrestricted to the center. Arase runs cod. Then he’s completely uncovered in the penalty area and heads the ball for a 1-0 lead. A goal that didn’t really come out of the game! In the final phase of the first half, the game became much “more intense”. Yaremchuk (43rd, 44th) and Fountas (45th + 1st) found excellent chances for the second goal. As a result, however, the break was 1-0 for KAA Gent.
After the break, little changed in the game. The game was slipping away at a manageable level. The guests had the first two finals of the second half for Kara (52, 53). However, these actions were not necessarily dangerous. The hosts presented themselves much more efficiently. The Belgians scored the second goal just before “time”. Again, not out of the game. After an attack by Greiml and, in the end, by goalkeeper Strebinger, Chakvetadze falls. The referee pointed to the penalty spot. With good luck, Yaremchuk made it 2-0 (59th). In the following minutes, the shock of the second goal was clearly perceptible to the guests. The Hütteldorfer struggled to get back into the game. However, the greenish-whites were no longer really mandatory. Also because the quality of the passport could be significantly improved. KAA Gent was compact in its own half and expected counterattacks. But these were dangerous at best in the early stages. So time passed before the game bounced back into injury time. Substitute Demir scored in the 93rd minute to make it 2-1. About 100 seconds later, Greiml could have led the tie. The emphasis was on “can” and so the buck passed. In the end, it was a narrow, but not undeserved, 2-1 home win for the hosts.
KAA Gent’s victory was not undeserved in the end due to the increased effectiveness. The Hütteldorfer have to bear the justified accusation that they have few ideas and not the necessary luck against a staunch sports rival. The dream of the Champions League group stage for SK Rapid Wien is over. The Verdiblancos continue the 2020/21 European Cup season in the Europa League group stage.
