Marcel Ritzmaier is the name of the long-awaited replacement for Thomas Murg, who will be moving to PAOK Saloniki, in SK Rapid.
The off-road midfielder comes to Hütteldorf on loan from the English 2nd division from FC Barnsley for a year.
“We are very happy to have managed to conquer Marcel Ritzmaier. He is a player who has enjoyed a very good education and can be used universally. We expect a lot from him and we hope that he achieves our game he can help from the beginning”, explains the general manager scored by Sport Zoran Barisic.
Ritzmaier himself says: “I am very happy to have finally arrived in Vienna. It is a great honor for me to be able to wear the green and white jersey for the next season. The anticipation for the tasks that lie ahead and for the team, the fans and the whole club is huge. “
Struber’s first Barnsley addition
Ritzmaier is at least interrupting his adventure in England, which began last January.
At the time, coming from Wolfsberger AC, he followed the call of his former WAC coach, Gerhard Struber, and was his first newcomer to Barnsley.
En route to relegation in the championship, Ritzmaier was on the field in 15 games, this season he was in three of four league games and each in the starting lineup.
87 missions in the honor division
The 27-year-old has made 48 appearances for WAC in the Bundesliga. He played 87 times in the Dutch honor division.
Trained at PSV Eindhoven, he was awarded Cambuur, Nijmegen and the Go Ahead Eagles before deciding to return to Austria in 2018.
Rapid’s next Bundesliga match will take place in Wolfsberg, which means that Carinthia will see the former teammates again.
