Belgian police officers on Friday night warned about 20 people that they were having a sex party in Brussels despite current Corona restrictions. Among the guests was a Hungarian MP from the ruling Fidesz party.
The celebration was reportedly held in an apartment above a bar in central Brussels, not far from a police station. Therefore, many of the guests, mostly men, were naked when they were arrested. Also, the police are said to have found drugs. According to the Police, “around 20 people were warned for non-compliance with health measures.”
“I deeply regret the violation of Covid-19 restrictions, it was irresponsible”
Among the guests were reportedly a MEP and several diplomats. The deputy is said to have tried to escape through a window when officials arrived. He is said to have injured himself and later referred to his diplomatic immunity as a member of parliament. It was the Hungarian József Szájer, as the 59-year-old himself has now confirmed.
The Public Ministry confirmed the attempted escape only with the initials “SJ” and the date of birth 1961. Two days after the incident, and before it was known, Szájer surprisingly announced on Sunday that he would resign as a member of the European Parliament with effect from December 31. Szájer is considered his confidant and spokesman for European politics. The party is committed to an increasingly nationalist and authoritarian course.
It is the subject of repeated criticism, among other things, for undermining the rights of sexual minorities. Szájer himself had made negative comments about homosexuals several times in the past. He is married to a lawyer who ran the Hungarian judicial office.
