The government is planning a strict border regime: those returning from Covid-contaminated countries must be quarantined for ten days. Time off must be allowed after at least five days.

Currently you can enter the country with a negative test no longer than 72 hours. The KURIER found out about these plans through specialized circles in charge of drafting the regulations. The background to the government’s plans is apparently the bad experiences of the summer and the current high number of infected people in Turkey and Serbia. It is feared that the virus will be introduced after the Orthodox Christmas of January 7.

The measure applies to all those entering Austria from countries with a seven-day incidence of more than 100 (per 100,000 inhabitants). It should take effect before Christmas and last until at least January 10. According to the newspaper “Kronen Zeitung”, there should be strict entry controls at the borders and at airports.

Workers have to take vacations

The quarantine period for returnees on vacation from Covid areas is not considered an excuse at work, so you would have to take a vacation. The regulation should apply equally to all countries with high levels of exposure to Covid, and would therefore also affect those returning from their skiing holidays in Switzerland.
