AK’s market research in Styria took a close look at the FFP2 and MNS masks and found some huge price differences for the FFP2 and MNS masks.
The market investigation of the Styrian Chamber of Labor examined the prices of protective masks and mouth and nasal guards (MNS) and found considerable price differences. The price of an FFP2 mask, for example, fluctuates between 2.00 and 9.90 euros, which corresponds to a difference of 395 percent when comparing the unit price, according to a broadcast on Wednesday. On average, you have to pay 6.21 euros for these filter masks.
The price differences in FFP2 skins are more obvious
“We collected prices, package size and protection level information from 16 pharmacies and specialty shops, as well as a self-service machine in the center of Graz,” said Susanne Bauer, head of market research at AK, explaining the starting point of the investigation. The investigation period was from November 12 to 13, that is, at the beginning of the second lockdown, in which the focus was specifically on the FFP2 and MNS masks.
The price differences were more pronounced for the FFP2 masks, which can generally be purchased individually. “For the tested products, the five-piece pack turned out to be the cheapest at € 18, converted to the unit price of € 3.60,” the testers concluded.
MNS masks between 40 cents and 1.60 euros
The price range for simple MNS masks is between € 0.40 and € 1.60 per piece. This results in a 300 percent price difference, although multi-packs tend to be cheaper. On average, they cost 1.10 euros. Compared to the first lockdown, prices have dropped. Individual MSNs are on average around 20 percent cheaper on the second lock.
