An arrest and legal protection judge at the Wels regional court sentenced Ernst August von Hannover not to be detained. The 66-year-old was allowed to leave Wels prison, but only against “softer means”.
These conditions stipulate that the great-grandson of the last German emperor, Wilhelm II, cannot return to his castle in Grnau im Almtal for the time being. He had to “stay in a certain place” and “get away from the supposed crime scene.”
A spokesman for the Wels prosecution did not say where the prince is staying. Because it is “about the health and therefore the most personal area of life” of the accused. The prosecutor also did not answer the question of whether an expert opinion would be obtained on the question of the legal health of the 66-year-old man.
As reported, Ernst August was arrested on Monday. He is said to have verbally assaulted a couple who worked for him, threatening to send “thugs” if they didn’t “sneak up on him.” It is also said that she broke a window with a traffic sign.
The alleged incident on Monday was not the first. It is said that he behaved aggressively towards police officers as early as July. At a traffic stop, he is said to have threatened officials with a baseball bat. The 66-year-old man was later admitted to the psychiatric ward.
Investigations into dangerous threats, attempted coercion, resistance to state authority and serious bodily injury to the detriment of a police officer have not yet concluded, he said.
