Investigators reported that the alleged perpetrator, armed with a stabbing weapon, threatened police officers who arrived northwest of the French capital after a call and was then shot and seriously injured by police in the neighboring town of Eragny. The BFM TV station and the Reuters news agency, however, reported that the alleged perpetrator had been killed by the police.

Decapitation: the victim must be a teacher

A police spokesman said the victim was said to be a high school teacher. It is said to have shown cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, investigators said. The perpetrator is said to have shouted “God is great” in Arabic prior to the attack, as eyewitnesses reported.

For fear of an explosive vest, the area around the crime scene was cordoned off, police said. Explosives experts were summoned. Authorities announced via Twitter that there is currently an operation in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine and that people should avoid the area.

Terrorist Background Investigation

The Antiterrorist Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the alleged “murder in connection with a terrorist company” and a “terrorist criminal organization”. At first, no further details about the crime’s background were released.

France has been rocked by Islamist attacks for years: more than 250 people died. Therefore, people are almost always aware of the threat of terrorism.
