Kadyrow critic Murad A., who became known on YouTube, was arrested Wednesday at his Kapfenberg apartment for illegal possession of weapons. The Chechen native has been under investigation for some time.
The critic of the Russian regional president Ramzan Kadyrov, Murad A., who made himself known on YouTube, was arrested on Wednesday at his apartment in Kapfenberg, Upper Styria. The 39-year-old, against whom a “bounty” is apparently being exposed because of his critical remarks, is said to have illegally owned weapons, APA police said.
The defendant was recently under police protection
The State Office for the Protection of the Constitution had been investigating those born in Chechnya for some time, who in the past had repeatedly highlighted through videos on the Internet that they criticized the regime. Since December 2019, he has been known on YouTube as “Murad WIEN”, especially among Chechen compatriots, and thus came to the center of the protection of the constitution. Murad A. is said to have posted “videos of mass criticism and rude insults against the regime of the Russian republic of Chechnya and its president.
Because of the danger he was in, he was finally under police protection. In addition, according to information from the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (LVT), a “reward” has already been placed against him. While the building in which he lived was being guarded, the authorities were investigating him on suspicion of illegal possession of weapons.
Cobra officers arrested Murad A.
When the suspicion was confirmed, LVT officials arrested the relevant 39-year-old former convict on Wednesday afternoon at his apartment in an apartment building in Kapfenberg (Bruck-Mürzzuschlag district). Despite the ban, a gun and ammunition were taken from him. Action forces from the Cobra task force secured the LVT officers during the arrest and took the man to a prison.
Styria’s regional police department stressed that there would be “no cause for alarm” for neighbors and residents. There is no danger.
Deadly shots against Chechens in Gerasdorf, near Vienna
Only in July, Chechnya-born Martin B., who had also appeared publicly against Kadyrov, was shot in the head in Vienna. At the time, shortly after the crime, it was suspected that it could have been a murder for hire with a political background. There was also a bounty for Martin B.
The July murder, in turn, brought back memories of the Israilov case: Asylum seeker Umar Israilov, who had fled his Chechen homeland, was shot on the street in Vienna-Floridsdorf on January 13, 2009. He too was he had publicly expressed himself as critical of President Kadyrov.
