Platter and infectologist Weiss urge “gradually normal life”

Tyrolean Governor Günther Platter (ÖVP) emphasized two days before the next Corona summit at the Chancellery that people in the state “long for relaxation.” “After a year of pandemic, we all need perspective. This clearly consists of initial steps,” Platter said. The prerequisite for this are, among other things, a low number of infections and an incidence of seven days, the country’s chief said, urging caution.

“Don’t give up your leadership lightly”

“Let’s all make a contribution so that the new infections are kept at a low level and we can make openings,” Platter appealed in a broadcast to his compatriots. The increases in the number of infections – from Friday to Saturday there were 281 – are less strong than in eastern Austria, for example, but “do not stop” in Tyrol. The main thing now is not to frivolously bet the advantage when it comes to the lowest incidence of seven days. “Be careful,” said the governor, especially in private meetings.

The infectiologist Günter Weiss, director of the Internal Medicine Clinic of the University of Innsbruck, was in the same line: on the one hand, it is important to “gradually restore people to their normal life”, but be careful following hygiene measures and minimizing contact. “Unfortunately, the new restrictions no longer work,” said Weiss, who is a member of Corona’s advisory team at the Health Ministry.
