ÖSV ski jumper Philipp Aschenwald was the sixth best Austrian in the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) on Friday. The Zillertal earned his third place in the top 10 this season.
The victory went to the Polish Dawid Kubacki, who prevailed ahead of Halvor Egner Granerud (NOR) and Piotr Zyla (POL).
Daniel Huber was 14th and therefore the second best jumper in ÖSV. The competition did not go the way Stefan Kraft wished, who only finished 28th. With Jan Hörl in 21st place and Thomas Lackner in 23rd place, a total of five athletes from ÖSV were able to jump to the points.
In the general classification of the Four Hills Tournament, the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud leads. The best Austrian is Philipp Aschenwald in sixth place (24.3 points behind).
Philipp Aschenwald: “Now I go back to where I feel comfortable and where it runs smoothly in the competition. The two competitions were really great and now I really want to jump in Austria. In Innsbruck, I am making up my mind that I can improve small mistakes and continue to improve step by step. ”
Andreas Widhölzl: “Philipp did a good job but otherwise I would have expected him to be a bit more positive today. I hope the guys stabilize and show the good jumps of the test jumps in competition. We will not be disturbed and will continue to work hard. ”
The Four Hills Tournament continues tomorrow, Saturday, at Bergisel in Innsbruck.
