The flesh of one man is the suffering of another. While Sebastian Vettel looks forward to his job at Aston Martin next season, his current predecessor at Racing Point is broken.

Sergio Pérez has to leave the team at the end of the season to make way for Vettel. For the Mexican, the end was a surprise. “No one had told me anything,” Pérez said before the Mugello Grand Prix. Racing Point had only informed him a few hours before Vettel’s announcement of the separation.

Pérez feels betrayed by Racing Point, which will become Aston Martin from next season. Although they had apparently been negotiating with Vettel for a long time, he was apparently left with the belief that he was ready for the next season as well.

“That was the feedback they gave me. The team wanted to keep me and so on,” explains Pérez. “In the background there were some conversations about contracts and things like that. There were some things in the contract that we passed. The bottom line is that yesterday they told me that I could not continue. I did not expect that.”

Still, Perez doesn’t want to wash dirty clothes and says it’s “okay” that he no longer drives for Racing Point in 2021. “I know everything has a beginning and an end. We still have nine races to accomplish something.”
