Illegal crown party or a large gathering to practice religion? Eyewitnesses made a very remarkable observation Friday afternoon at a house of prayer in Vienna-Fünfhaus. A caller finally stated on the police emergency number that there were a large number of people in the mosque and that the applicable Covid regulations were not being followed. According to the police, when the officers arrived, suddenly between 20 and 30 people fled the house of prayer in all directions.

Most of the rest of those present did not maintain a minimum distance and did not wear FFP2 masks, the police announced on Saturday. During the surveys and the attempt to contact one of those responsible for the facility, several people behaved aggressively towards the agents despite repeated warnings. It has been denounced under administrative criminal law. Covid regulations were also not partially enforced when visitors left, so officials carried out identity checks accordingly. The matter was reported to the responsible health authority for review, as events of religious practice fall under the exceptions of the current 4th Covid Protection Measures Ordinance.

Sensitive handling

During such operations, the Vienna police are sensitive to the freedom to practice their religion and, on the other hand, are legally obliged to report possible violations under the Covid Regulation, explains a police spokesman.
