New security measures could, among other things, trigger the closure of cafes.
Paris. Due to the very tense situation in Corona, the “maximum alert level” will be declared on Monday in and around Paris. New security measures could, among other things, trigger the closure of cafes, the French news agency AFP reported Sunday evening, citing the office of French Prime Minister Jean Castex. Restaurants, on the other hand, could stay open with greater corona precautions.
The step is not a surprise. Health Minister Olivier Véran had already said late last week that the situation in the capital and the suburbs had recently deteriorated rapidly.
“Maximum alert level”
In the fight against the corona pandemic, the “maximum alert level” has so far been applied in the French overseas territory of Guadeloupe and in Marseille. In the southern French port city, restaurants and bars had to close; there were massive protests. In Paris, bars close at 10 pm, restaurants can stay open longer. However, they are only allowed to serve alcohol in connection with a meal.
The new measures will be presented on Monday by the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, and will initially apply for 15 days, the agency reported.
France recorded 12,565 new corona infections nationwide in 24 hours, authorities announced overnight. The day before, there were 16,972 new infections, significantly more. France has been hit hard by the Covid 19 pandemic, with more than 32,000 dead so far.
