The Vienna ÖVP presented its electoral program on Friday. State Administrator Bernadette Arnoldner and Non-Executive Councilor Markus Wölbitsch filed key lawsuits. In addition to the already known plans in the field of integration, the Turks also want rates not to rise in the coming years and that the office of a Security Councilor be introduced.

“Achievement for Vienna” is what the ÖVP calls its 40-page program. “Turquoise politics thinks long-term, between districts and generations, is based on personal responsibility and requires quick decisions,” says the foreword, which is adorned with a portrait of the main candidate for finance minister, Gernot Blümel. “The city needs a clear line when it comes to performance, security, integration and the economy,” Arnoldner said at a press conference with the turquoise creed.

The Popular Party has been hitting key points in the catalog of demands, especially regarding migration and integration, for days, most recently as part of its electoral campaign on Thursday. This includes the implementation of the Social Welfare Law and therefore strict provisions on minimum security benefits also in Vienna, German as a prerequisite for obtaining a community apartment or the anchoring of German as a national language in the constitution of the Vienna city.

What else does turquoise want? The state administrator called for a “rate brake.” In other words: rates must be “frozen” for the next legislative period as they are, that is, they do not increase for five years. After all, since the start of the red-green coalition in 2010 there has been a surplus of € 1.4 billion in this regard. “Today an average family pays 270 euros more a year in installments than at the beginning of the Red-Green”, calculates Arnoldner.

In terms of housing, the ÖVP wants to reserve at least 20 percent of the housing subsidy to help individuals create properties. The introduction of a “social need” category is also requested in order to obtain a community apartment more quickly.

In addition, the opposition party of the City Council calls once again for the introduction of a city security council. “This is now a complete cross-cutting issue,” Arnoldner said. In addition, the city’s security services will be combined into a “city watch.” In municipal offices, the state administrator would like a quota of women in managerial positions of at least 40 percent by the end of the next term. The turnout is currently 30 percent.

In addition to the repeated demand for the creation of tourist areas with Sunday opening, Wölbitsch mentioned the proposal to make the city hall, which is currently empty due to the corona pandemic, available as a market hall for Viennese producers. In the sports sector, the ÖVP is in favor of a “sports bonus” that allows children to become members of a club free of charge for one year. A concept is also required for the aging Happel Stadium. In the environmental area, the Popular Party is in favor of a new park per district.
