LR Teschl-Hofmeister: The state of Lower Austria takes a firm stance against violence against women
St. Pölten (OTS / NLK) – Yesterday, Wednesday, the sound tower at Landhausplatz in St. Pölten was colored orange as part of the annual “Orange the World” campaign. By participating in the global campaign, Lower Austria wishes to send a strong signal against violence against women. “In Lower Austria, it is important to us that all women who need protection and support receive it quickly and without bureaucracy. Our state has a well-developed network of initiatives and institutions that offer professional help. We believe that our task is to draw more attention to these possibilities and to encourage affected women to make use of them ”, explains the Regional Councilor for Women, Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister. Again this year the campaign is carried out in cooperation with the Austrian International Soroptimist Union. At the site, the St. Pölten Allegria Soroptimist Club was able to deliver donations in kind and money to Rita Olah, director of the Emmaus Community Women’s Dormitory, through President Eva Hahn and Regional Councilor Christiane Teschl-Hofmeister.
Every year, during the “16 days against violence against women” between November 25, International Day against Violence against Women and December 10, International Human Rights Day, UN Women carries out the campaign ” Orange The World ”. As part of this initiative, buildings around the world glow orange to set an example against violence against women. The objective is to make the victims of violence visible and thus give them a strong voice. This year the focus of the campaign is cooperation with organizations such as health centers, women’s shelters, police, forensics and justice, as well as training centers in nursing and medicine. “Through greater information and education, through greater media attention and through a strong interaction of all the organizations and forces involved, it should be possible to give more attention to the issue in civil society. The aim is to finally get out of the taboo area, ”explains Teschl-Hofmeister.
