It was a suboptimal entry into the world of coaching for Patrick Helmes. After the 1: 4 applause against Rapid and the separation of coach Zvonimir Soldo, Helmes promoted to Admira’s interim coach, but with a 0: 5 against St. Pölten he could not be recommended for a long-term commitment; now there are even criticisms of the Association officials.
Only two games have been played and yet Admira seems to want to recommend himself for the position of number one candidate for relegation. After the weak start to the season, the next coaching order should be in place, as sporting director Franz Wohlfahrt said. Kronen newspaper stresses: “We cannot afford to make mistakes.”
Interim manager Helmes appears to be offside. “The performance against St. Pölten was not ideal to finally become head coach,” one point in particular bothers Wohlfahrt: “The lineup? Harakiri with a career, should have supported him more.” Felix Magath also takes a similar line: “I am very surprised that Patrick did not get feedback from us in advance.”
Franz Wohlfahrt: “I’ll fuck my ass until you get it”
Even days after the game, there was no positive news from the 36-year-old. Due to poor performance, the players’ day off was canceled, but Helmes himself was in Cologne due to a visit to the authorities and therefore did not conduct the training himself. “I wouldn’t have done it, but I was never an interim coach,” Magath said of the incident.
But not only are there criticisms of Helmes from those responsible, the players were also criticized. Wohlfahrt is not very scrupulous about it: “Some are not ready for the league yet, others do not understand what is important. I will continue to screw them until they get it.”
