Before the crisis, tourism used to have a negative aftertaste. Now there is the possibility of redesigning it: more sustainable, more ecological, more social.
It’s these little things that we take for granted that show us what motivates us. When the Chancellor recently commented on winter tourism and urged stricter rules on the crown, the Austrian Press Agency was worth an urgent report. “Hurry up: Kurz is in the mood for skiing without après-ski,” read the headline. And “Die Presse” immediately sent a push message: “Ski fun, yes, but no après-ski”. With all the love for winter sports: do you really have to raise the alarm immediately if we have to do without après-ski? Is this how we look when we think of ski vacations? If so, we shouldn’t take advantage of this difficult time our tourism is in only to finally treat each other responsibly to contain infections. It would also be an opportunity to rethink tourism in many areas. More sustainable, ecological and social.
