The LASK as expected, he reached the second round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup. The Linz athletes battled bravely defending national league team ASV Siegendorf until the 54th minute, before newcomer Andreas Gruber smashed the gate seconds after being substituted. Hussein Balic (73rd) and Marko Raguz (89th) made it 3-0.
LASK tirelessly urges, but Siegendorf bravely defends
The Linz athletes faced the Siegendorf team coached by Josef Kühbauer, brother of the Rapid Didi coach, from the start. The Bundesliga team started off enthusiastically and quickly presented their first chances: first, a deflected shot from Trauner hissed just past the goal (5th). Soon after, Linz’s head of defense was on the lookout as the underdog fought back and Philipp Prosenik deftly fled (10th).
Four minutes later, the Austrians were unlucky when a Husein Balic shot crashed on pole before Siegendorf goalkeeper Renger defused a Trauner header (16). That Renger then showed insecurities with higher balls, which LASK failed to punish. In the 26th minute, Linz came very close or should have been rewarded with a goal, as a header from Petar Filipovic passed just over the goal line. The LASK players had pointed this out, but the referee team around head referee Markus Hameter did not recognize the goal.
And the guests continued their period of urgency: Renner connected a cross to the penalty area, where Raguz headed in. Siegendorf’s goalkeeper, Renger, was able to avoid the goal with a big kick (33rd). Josef Kühbauer’s protégés bravely defended and kept their goal clean. Peter Michorl was allowed to cross into the penalty area every minute from a corner or from play, but the high balls did not lead to success against the crossbar by Burgenland’s defense.
Newcomer Andreas Gruber breaks the door
Both teams returned to the field with no personnel changes. Thus, the two former Rapid players Andreas Dober and Philipp Prosenik stayed on the field of the national division. The third member, Christopher Drazan, had to pass due to a knee injury. Nothing changed in the game itself: LASK remained very dominant, controlled the game and sought the hole in the bottom line of the underdog.
Siegendorf’s goalkeeper Renger was also busy afterward. At first he was able to parry a dangerously deflected long-range shot in spectacular fashion before newcomer Andreas Gruber broke the spell and the Linz team took the lead. After a failed act by Renger, Gruber, who had just been substituted, vigorously followed suit and headed the leather into the empty goal – 0: 1 (54th). Meanwhile, he was pouring into the newly built Wiener Neustädter stadium like a sheep. Peter Michorl was unimpressed and took off in the 59th minute, but his attempt hit the crossbar – LASK’s second foil goal that night. The rookie Andreas Gruber also made a very good figure in his debut and put Marko Raguz on stage with a magnificent setter in the penalty area, whose header went just over the goal (66th).
Shortly after he became frantic: First Renger was able to distinguish himself from Raguz, before Andrade’s shot could be blocked. The youngster from Panama then threw a kick over the head, but missed the gate (68). Five minutes later, a failed committee by Andreas Dober led the Linz athletes 2-0. Hussein Balic blocked the ex-Rapidler’s shot and pushed the leather towards the goal – 0: 2 (73rd). In the 89th minute, the guests put the game on hold: Marko Raguz converted LASK’s 17th corner in this game to 3-0.
