Temperature drop: a cold front ends the beautiful end of summer
The weekend has ended with the beautiful end of summer. A cold front arrived in Austria on Friday. This brings cool fall weather to snow in the mountains, experts from the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG) predicted Tuesday.
Wednesdays and Thursdays, however, are still very friendly. Here maximum values of 20 to 26 degrees are expected. “On the weekend it is 10 to 15 degrees cooler than in recent days, and it can snow above 1,000 to 1,300 meters,” said Bernd Niedermoser of ZAMG.
From around 1,500 meters above sea level, ZAMG expects four to twelve inches of fresh snow on the weekend. In the high mountains sometimes it snows a little more. This means that winter driving conditions are possible on higher pass roads. High temperatures on Saturdays and Sundays in most of Austria are just ten degrees. In the south and east the temperatures are around 15 degrees.
