“The situation is very serious, the situation is reaching a critical point”: Faced with the growing number of corona infections, the government addressed the population with serious words on Sunday and warned that the measures must be observed.

In view of tomorrow’s national holiday, Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen’s head of state appeals downward to comply with the crown’s rules.

Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) proposes new measures if the increase in the number of infected people is not stopped. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) calls for reducing contacts during school holidays and forgoing Halloween parties.

Van der Bellen asks: “I have to accept restrictions”

In a letter circulated in the media, Van der Bellen asks to understand that he will not be able to celebrate the national holiday as usual. “We all have to live with the virus and accept restrictions to protect our health,” said the federal president.

Kurz and Anschober request several newspaper interviews to comply with the rules. “The situation is extremely serious, the situation is reaching a critical point,” says Kurz in the “Kurier”. In other countries there are already closures with schools, shops, restaurants and curfews closed. This is also imminent in Austria if the growth of infections is not slowed. “At the moment it doesn’t seem like that,” Kurz says gloomily.

Kurz and Anschober put hope in the corona vaccine

Kurz only hopes a “change of course” with a vaccine, as he says in the newspaper “Austria”. Anschober expects this in early 2021. “Ideally, we want to be able to start vaccinating in Austria in February or March,” Anschober says in the “Krone”. He could understand a certain “Corona weariness”, but: “Now it comes! The next three or four weeks will be decisive for our future!”

Additionally, Anschober has announced uniform crown statistics. The Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) are publishing figures on a daily basis, some of which differ significantly due to different survey methods. “In the future, the same figures will be published at the same time. The main source continues to be the Ages board,” Anschober says in the “Press”.

SPÖ leader Rendi-Wagner wants to help with the Samaritan Association

Meanwhile, the head of the SP, Pamela Rendi-Wagner, has moved to receive practical help: the doctor wants to help with the Samaritan Association once a week and has photographed for the “Krone” eliminating the evidence of gargles in the Prater stadium in Vienna.
