Novak Djokovic can no longer participate in the US Open

Novak Djokovic was disqualified at the US Open. The 33-year-old world number one hit a linesman in his round of 16 match against Spain’s Pablo Carreño Busta with a score of 5: 6 in the first set with a ball he had returned after one play. The linesman then gasped for air, Djokovic was visibly shocked and rushed to help.

The Serbian started the tournament as a clear favorite, he has not lost a match this year.

Alexander Zverev said in his press conference that the incident was very unfortunate for Djokovic. Basically the ball could have gone anywhere. But there are rules that must be followed. Of course, now you know one thing: there will be a new Grand Slam champion at the 2020 US Open.

The last qualification at the highest level was ruled against Denis Shapovalov for a similar reason, who inadvertently hit the chair umpire with a ball in a Davis Cup match in 2017.
