Johannes Lamparter narrowly missed the podium in the final of the Nordic Combined World Cup in Klingenthal. The 19-year-old Tyrolean, who started the track in seventh place, 42 seconds behind, had to admit defeat to Germany’s Fabian Rießle in the sprint for third place by just 0.7 seconds. The victory went to World Cup dominator Jarl Magnus Riiber.
The 23-year-old Norwegian, who celebrated his 36th World Cup triumph and has long established himself as the overall World Cup winner, was 3.7 seconds ahead of compatriot Espen Björnstad and 17.9 seconds ahead of Rießle or 17.9 seconds of Lamparter. Riiber had already clearly prevailed in the general classification in the last two years. Also this season he was the outstanding combiner.
The second best Austrian was Lukas Greiderer, who finished in 11th place 1: 08.1 minutes behind Riiber’s winning time. Lukas Klapfer (+1: 41.2) was 15. Mario Seidl, sixth after jumping, fell back to 18th on the track. He was 1: 54.4 minutes behind.
