Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) does not currently see the need for a general outdoor mask requirement, as is being discussed in Italy in light of the increasing number of infections there.

He is satisfied that, step by step, the awareness of measurements in closed rooms is increasing again. This is “an essential step towards success”.

He speaks on behalf of Italy that there is a speech about the requirement to wear a mask outdoors, although the figures are comparatively stable compared to some other countries.

In this country there is only an obligation to wear nasal and mouth protection outdoors, according to Anschober: “And outdoors I do not see any need at the moment, I have to say it quite frankly.”

No adjustments are planned at the national level

When asked if other restrictive measures were planned, Anschober replied that the nationwide measures that were implemented almost three weeks ago appear to be effective. Currently, the focus is on additional regional measures, where there is a higher risk, such as orange districts, according to Anschober. There the dissemination process will be specifically addressed.
