Chancellor Sebastian Kurz does not want to take the joy of Saint Nicholas away from children despite the corona pandemic, which is why visits to Saint Nicholas are allowed despite current exit restrictions and Covid requirements.
Despite Corona, San Nicolás does not remain blocked: the government explicitly includes San Nicolás in the “legal justification” of the Covid 19 Emergency Measures Ordinance.
Nikolo’s visit will be decided on Wednesday in the main committee of the National Council along with the extension of the exit restrictions for another ten days, the Foreign Ministry told the APA.

Professional purposes, including volunteer work, especially for blue-light organizations, have been considered a legitimate reason to leave the house locked up. Now, according to the Foreign Ministry, it should be added in concrete terms that this also includes a visit to San Nicolás: “Therefore, there is an initial permissible reason regardless of whether the activity of San Nicolás is free or not.” The Krampus is not mentioned separately.
“This year, especially for children, keeping their distance, dispensing with them and restraining them was a huge burden,” Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) said in a written statement. You do not want to take the joy of Nikolo from the children this year.
