After Marco Rossi, the next Austrian will find a franchise in the 2020 NHL draft that can lead him to the best ice hockey league in the world: Thimo Nickl will be selected by the Anaheim Ducks.

The California team decides in the fourth round at 104th for the 18-year-old from Klagenfurt, who will become the first KAC-trained player with honors in the NHL draft.

Nickl is only the second Austrian defender selected in the NHL draft. Andre Lakos was selected 95th by the New Jersey Devils in 1999, but never made it to the NHL.

The defender played on display last season for the Drummondville Voltigeurs in the Canadian QMJHL. He contributed 10 goals and 29 assists in 58 games. In previous years he was in the KAC II of the Alps Hockey League.
