The times when measures against the coronavirus were relaxed are over for now. In view of the rapidly increasing number of infections, the federal government feels compelled to tighten the reins again. And that’s at the national level, regardless of the controversial play of colors with the Corona traffic light.
“He’s getting serious again,” agrees Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on the imminent adjustment (see above for more details). “We want to get through the winter reasonably well,” he says and continues: “Of course it’s about not overburdening the healthcare sector. The number of infections should not increase immeasurably ”, warns the Chancellor.
On Friday alone, 580 new corona virus infections were recorded in Austria, 265 of them in Vienna. Health Minister Rudolf Anschober (Greens) speaks of “quite a challenge” in the urban areas of Austria.
This is not the case for Interior Minister Karl Nehammer (ÖVP), who on Friday could not resist a point against red-green-ruled Vienna: he was pleased that “the city of Vienna has now recognized the gravity of the situation “.
As reported, recently there was a new discord between the federal government and the city. On Thursday, the government called for stricter measures, as it would have no legal means to do so. This was often interpreted as a leak to the front, as he had been in the room for a few days when the traffic light from Corona to Vienna could turn orange under pressure from the Chancellor.
