After jumping to more than 6,000 cases on Wednesday, the next expected high value was reported Thursday with 7,416 new SARS-CoV-2 infections in 24 hours in Austria.
The Interior Ministry reported 2,737 people in hospital treatment for the coronavirus, 407 of them in intensive care units. For the first time there are also more than 50,000 actively infected. Meanwhile, the traffic light in Corona was changed to red in all districts of Austria.
All red districts
At its meeting on Thursday afternoon, the Crown Commission determined a very high risk of infection for all districts and regions of Austria. With that, the last yellow and orange spots on the map have also disappeared. So far, there have been 15 districts and regions where the risk of infection was rated as medium or high. The evaluation was tightened for all these districts.
More than 50,000 actively infected
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, there have been a total of 132,515 positive results in Austria. 1,268 people have died as a result of the coronavirus, 80,604 people have recovered. This results in more than 50,000 actively infected people. In the past seven days there were an average of 5,350 new infections each day, and the number of intensive care patients increased by nearly 65 percent during this period.
New infections in the four-digit range reported Lower and Upper Austria with 1,053 and 1,540 respectively, and Vienna with 1,231 positive tests. The remaining federal states are divided as follows: Burgenland: 233, Carinthia: 338, Salzburg: 497, Styria: 987, Tyrol: 828 and Vorarlberg: 709.
Seven-day incidence is increasing
The seven-day incidents also reached new highs before the next traffic light change, Vorarlberg even increased from 579.6 to 662.5, making it the federal state with the highest value, followed by Upper Austria and Tyrol. Vienna plans to establish a third coronavirus test street. It should be located in the west of the city, as specified on Thursday by a spokesman for Health Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) for the APA.
