In Austria, the current “lockdown” will be significantly tightened as of Tuesday. Exit restrictions apply around the clock, and “strict lockdown” also brings with it more stringent contact restrictions: only meetings with the partner, “individual close relatives” or “important individual caregivers” are allowed.

With some exceptions, retailers have to close and schools are completely shifting to distance education.

Austria will toughen crown measures from November 17

The stricter measures against the coronavirus will take effect on Tuesday, November 17, and will remain in effect (for now) until December 6.

Now you can only leave your own private living room for specific reasons, throughout the day. You are allowed to drive to work, buy “commodities” and go to medical care. It is also allowed to stay outdoors for “physical and mental relaxation” such as hiking or individual sports. Caring for people who need support is also included in the exceptions, such as going to the cemetery, visiting religious institutions or caring for animals. You can also go outside to avoid immediate danger to life, limbs, and property.

The rules regarding meetings with people outside the home are significantly tightened. You are only allowed to attend meetings if you are in contact with your life partner or in contact with “individual close relatives” or “individual important reference persons who are normally in contact with several times a week”. The government understands this to mean that a household can only meet with a single person other than the household to be determined.

DISTANCE RULES, MASKING REQUIREMENTS

The rule of 1 meter distance in public space for people who do not belong to the home remains in force. Protection of the mouth and nose (MNS) is still necessary in closed public spaces; children up to six years old are still exempt.

The schools go completely to distance education, after the higher level, now also the entire area of compulsory school. However, if necessary, supervision and educational support should be offered in small groups. Face-to-face teaching for all schools is scheduled to resume on December 7. The situation is similar with kindergartens: in principle, there is no compulsory attendance, but children can be cared for in the facilities if necessary.

According to the Vienna Medical Association, the ordinations are available without restriction and in full even during the harsh lockdown. It is requested that you only visit the ordinations after prior telephone appointment. Accompanying persons must also come after the consultation. Much can also be done electronically.

A good alternative to visiting an ordination in Vienna are the so-called “sniff” checkboxes. These offer low-threshold access to medical services if you have flu-like symptoms such as a runny nose, fever, cough, or sore throat. At the moment, there are two locations: Vienna 10., Ludwig-von-Höhnel-Gasse 2 and Vienna 16., Mildeplatz in front of number 8.

EVENTS, TOURISM

The events remain almost completely prohibited, there are exceptions for demonstrations, religious events and political and party events. All hotels and accommodation establishments are closed for tourist reasons. There are exceptions for business travelers.

All contact sports are prohibited in the leisure area, including football. Individual and recreational outdoor sports are allowed as long as there is no physical contact. The professional area remains upright.

All leisure facilities, such as gyms, baths, museums and museum railways, cinemas, theaters, concert halls, cabarets, animal parks or leisure and amusement parks, remain closed. Libraries that were previously open are also likely to be closed.

The home office is recommended whenever possible. If the distance of one meter or other protective measures is not possible, it is mandatory to protect your mouth and nose.

HOSPITALS, nursing homes and nursing homes

In hospitals, only one visit per week per patient is possible. Pregnant women can be accompanied by one person before and after delivery, minors and people in need of support by two people. Employees are required to perform a corona test once a week. Even in healthcare centers, only one visit per week per patient is possible.

As before, a maximum of 50 people can attend funerals; Minimum distance rule and MNS obligation apply. In any case, mouth and nasal protection should be used indoors in religious communities.
